New Forest District Council needed a replacement boardwalk in Sweatford Meadow. The existing timber boardwalk, which crossed a sensitive water meadow, had started to rot and needed to be upgraded quickly as it linked a large housing area to the town centre. It was used frequently by pedestrians, including children on route to the local school.

This area of Sweatford Meadow needed immediate attention, and Polydeck had just the answer!

How Polydeck helped New Forest District Council

Polydeck suggested the use of its glass reinforced polyester (GRP) boardwalk system. Polydeck’s GRP boardwalks come in a standard kit form with all components including decking planks, GRP support beams and posts, along with all bolts and fixings. All the components are assembled at their factory and then sent to site, so everything you need to build a complete walkway is provided.

Polydeck’s GRP boardwalk system is completely water and weather resistant so it will not rot, bow or warp. The boardwalk decking planks are also manufactured with hard– wearing silicon carbide aggregate which provide a safe and durable anti– slip walking surface that is guaranteed for 30 years.  The boardwalks are an ideal alternative to timer structures because they are quicker and easier to transport and install.  Unlike timber, GRP is light– weight so is ideal for carrying, by hand, to tricky countryside locations.

A full list of Polydeck’s GRP boardwalk advantages are as follows:

  • No rot
  • Timber effect design
  • Anti– slip
  • Light– weight
  • Quick & easy to install
  • 30+ years life expectancy
  • Includes recycled materials

The Sweatford Meadow Boardwalk was installed by the New Forest District Council Open Spaces team in just a few short hours so the walkway was back open to the public quicker than they had expected.
