STAIRWAYS

Polydeck produces a range of stair tread covers to suit a variety of applications and budgets. The range comprises of:

  • 4mm gritted overlay tread
  • 6mm DDA compliant overlay tread
  • 12mm Extra heavy duty GRP stair tread
  • 12mm Extra heavy duty metal backed stair tread

4mm gritted overlay treads

4mm non slip stair treadsGripfast 4mm gritted overlay treads are often specified when the client is on a budget and adherence to the DDA regulations is not a requirement. Manufactured from 4mm GRP, the treads can be supplied in any colour with a range of different aggregate grades. A sightline can also be painted on to the edge of the tread to highlight the nosing, although this is not strictly DDA compliant as the paint can wear away. Features include:

  • Manufactured from Glass reinforced polyester GRP which does not rot.
  • Coated with a layer of fused aluminium oxide aggregate with a hardness rating of 9 moh to ensure extra heavy durability against wear.
  • Slip resistance values of 73 WET and 88 DRY * meaning that treads provide a walking surface which is designated as Low Slip Potential by the UK Slip Resistance Group Guidelines (issue 3, 2011).
  • Treads can be mechanically chamfered so that leading edges do not form a trip hazard.
  • All treads come with a fire rating classification of CFL – s1 ** and Class 1 to BS476 Parts 6 and 7.
  • Available in a range of different aggregate grades
  • – Barefoot
  • – Pedestrian
  • – Industrial
  • – Offshore
  • Available in an infinite range of colours to suit your particular environment.
  • A high visibility sightline can be painted on to the edge of the tread to highlight the nosing
  • The GRP surface can readily be cut on site with a diamond tipped blade to accommodate specific site issues such cutting around protruding bolts used to locate posts for handrails.
  • Design life: 30 years.

6mm DDA Compliant Stair Treads

6mm DDA compliant non slip stair treadsGRIPFAST 6mm DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) Compliant Anti Slip Treads have been designed to help stations comply with the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act and Part M of the Building Regulations.

The regulations state that a stepped access will satisfy requirement M1 or M2 if ‘…all nosings are made apparent by means of a permanently contrasting material 55mm wide on both the tread and the riser’

GRIPFAST DDA Compliant Treads incorporate this colour constant and contrasting nosing, thereby ensuring compliance with the DDA recommendations and Building Regulations. The treads are manufactured from a durable GRP (glass reinforced polyester) incorporating a ‘near-diamond-hard’ finish and can be supplied in a range of finishes, aggregate grades and an almost infinite number of colours. Features include:

  • Manufactured in a mould from high quality glass and containing an integral double layer of silicon carbide aggregate to ensure extra heavy durability against wear.
  • Slip resistance values of up to 73 WET and 88 DRY * to provide a walking surface which is designated as Low Slip Potential by the UK Slip Resistance Group Guidelines (issue 3, 2011).
  • Special aluminium chamfer piece ensures that leading edges of treads do not form a trip hazard on top landings.
  • All treads come with a fire rating classification of CFL – s1 ** and Class 1 to BS476 Parts 6 and 7.
  • Vertical ungritted risers can be supplied in material which reaches Class 0 standard and is easy to maintain and keep clean.
  • Treads are manufactured with a DDA compliant colour constant and contrasting nosing 55mm wide on the front edge and downstand, to fully comply with DDA regulations.
  • Available in a range of different surface patterns (need close up photo)
  • – Plain finish
  • – Diamond pattern
  • – Tile pattern
  • – Timber deck effect
  • Available in a range of different aggregate grades
  • Available in an infinite range of colours to suit your particular environment.
  • Design life: 30 years.

*Measured using the BS 7976-2 Pendulum slip testing method,
Note: Different finishes have different slip resistance values (see table)

Gripfast Extra Heavy Duty GRP Stair Tread

Introduction
GRIPFAST Extra Heavy Duty GRP Stair Treads have been designed for applications where extremely high levels of foot traffic are expected and also in areas where the substrate onto which the treads are going is in very poor condition (for example, dished concrete) or subject to movement.

GRIPFAST Extra Heavy Duty GRP Stair Treads provide a long-lasting, safe walking surface for worn, dangerous and slippery steps. They fully comply with DDA requirements and come with a design life of 30 years.

The GRIPFAST 12mm Extra Heavy Duty Tread is a prefabricated anti slip tread manufactured from a 12mm thick glass reinforced polyester panel onto which a GRP covered aluminium extrusion is bonded and mechanically fixed to create a colour constant and contrasting (DDA compliant) nosing.

On the left is a before and after photo at Knaresborough station where we fitted Extra Heavy Duty stair treads due to the poor condition of the concrete.
