Recently, the team at Polydeck were contacted to refurbish the access ramp flooring panels at Glasgow’s Muirend Station, as this area was quickly becoming a health and safety hazard for commuters.
In our latest case history, the Polydeck team reveal how we were to improve the Muirend access ramp to ensure the safety of all station visitors.
A trip hazard that required a swift solution
The flooring panels on the access ramp at Muirend Station needed replacing urgently due to the existing surface having become a trip hazard.
After only 2 years of being fitted, the existing thin 4mm glass reinforced polyester (GRP) had lifted at the edges and was not repairable because the anti– slip surface didn’t provide the necessary resistance. Network Rail employed CPMS to source and install a new GRP alternative.
CPMS contacted Polydeck, the anti– slip flooring specialist, for a hard wearing, long lasting anti– slip surface.

How the anti slip specialists at Polydeck improved Muirend Station
Polydeck specified the use of their Extra Heavy Duty Diamond pattern panels.
Polydeck’s diamond pattern GRP panels are hard wearing and can withstand heavy footfall. Their durable surface is constructed from silicone carbide grit, a near diamond hard aggregate that will last in excess of 30 years.
All Polydeck’s products are custom made and in this case CPMS chose a colour constant yellow site line incorporating a unique metal chamfer edge. This was to ensure the leading edge didn’t become a trip hazard.
Polydeck’s extra heavy duty panels are quick and easy to install and can be bonded and mechanically ﬁxed to virtually any structurally sound and level substrate.
CPMS used 110 squared meters of GRP diamond pattern tread and were pleased with the finished result.
