The owners of Sopley Park, Mr and Mrs Bovington, were looking to refurbish a metal footbridge that led to an island in the middle of the lake. Whilst the metal structure had been refurbished, the owners were looking for a lightweight yet durable anti-slip walking surface that would not rot, like timber.

The owners were aware that traditional timber decking can be very slippery when it’s wet and can also attract mould and moss after a few years.  Given that the bridge was by a lake and sheltered by mature trees, the owners were looking for a walkway deck that would stand the test of time. In addition, they wanted a product that complimented the unusual and stunning design of the bridge.

Polydeck Decking Planks

After searching the internet for a variety of solutions, the Sopley Park owners contacted Polydeck to see whether we could recommend a product to suit their requirements.

We suggested recommended the use of our 45mm thick bridge decking planks, a revolutionary new concept in outdoor decking.

Unlike traditional timber decking which rots and becomes slippery when wet, Polydeck’s bridge decking planks are manufactured from rot-resistant glass fibre and come with an integral anti-slip surface which provides a safe walking surface even in wet conditions.

The 45mm thick load-bearing BoardWalk Planks were quickly and easily installed onto the metal subframe using stainless steel machine screws.

Manufactured in the UK by Polydeck Limited, the UK’s leading manufacturer and supplier of anti slip products, the bridge decking planks have a design life of at least 30 years. The planks were supplied in black with a castellated finish to assist with drainage.
