At Polydeck, we understand that when you are liable of a property, it’s imperative to provide safe and secure staircases, including everything from the decking to the stair treads.
That’s why, when Premier Place Freeholds Limited, who work on behalf of the residents of Premier Place in Garford Street, came to us, we were committed to providing them with a solution to their communal entrance staircases.
Improving the appearance of Premier Place apartment stairs
Premier Place is a collection of privately-owned apartments, located in seven separate buildings situated in a prestigious part of London.
Near to the Docklands, the flats and communal areas were all built to a very high specification, receiving daily maintenance by a team of people employed by Premier Place Freeholds Limited.
The management team decided they wanted to improve the anti- slip properties and appearance of the communal entrance staircases of the Premier Place buildings.
The existing stairs had become slippery due to the wet conditions, creating a dangerous walkway for residents and ruining the appearance.
Recruiting Polydeck’s help, we were required to update the anti-slip treads and landings, ensuring the apartment entry staircases were safe and kept within the aesthetic of the rest of the estate.
How Polydeck updated the anti-slip treads
Maintaining both the properties appearance and safety was vital for Premier Place Freeholds Limited, as well as having a long-term solution. Therefore, Polydeck proposed the use of their 9mm thick GRP DDA compliant treads.
Recommended for its durability and longevity, the treads have a 30-year life expectancy and anti-slip features, providing a safe walking surface for residents.
After extensive discussions with the residents, the treads were supplied in Polydeck’s ‘Chester mix’ aggregate, with a matching sealant and all screw heads covered over to ensure a pleasing appearance.
Bonded and mechanically fixed to the existing stairs, the exposed sides and stringers of the steps were also covered in Chester mix panels to suit the property aesthetic.
After completion, the blocks Chartered Building Surveyor, Nigel Rickard, commented,
“The treads were easy to install and are aesthetically pleasing, but most importantly they’ve improved resident safety.”
