TRUSTED BY LOCAL AUTHORITIES & BUSINESSES ACROSS THE UK
Hanover Housing is a leading provider of high quality retirement housing and related services’ for older people in the UK. At its Scarborough site in North Yorkshire, Hanover maintains around 60 properties including flats and houses and communal areas.
Inspections by the Estate Management Team indicated that the balcony walkways and stair treads at Scarborough were a slip hazard. Previously the Estate’s team had tried using anti slip paint, but they found that the anti slip surface soon started to wear away and in addition, the coating would often delaminate from the concrete substrate. The walkways were continually being re-painted year after year, but the solution was never satisfactory. As a consequence, it was decided to look for alternative, more permanent solutions.
The Hanover Estates Team were determined to source an effective anti slip solution which didn’t need re-applying every year, they also wanted a solution that looked good and improved the aesthetic appearance of the balconies. Finally, they wanted to cause minimum disruption to the residents. The stairs and balcony walkway areas are in constant use and couldn’t be closed off for any length of time. As a consequence they called Polydeck to recommend an appropriate solution.
The Solution: Anti Slip Panels and DDA Compliant Treads from Gripfast
Following a site meeting and an analysis of the clients needs, Polydeck Ltd recommended fitting 6mm thick overlay anti slip panels in grey with a diamond pattern finish and 6mm thick DDA compliant anti slip treads in grey with a yellow contrasting nosing. Manufactured from a durable and lightweight composite, incorporating a near diamond-hard anti slip surface, the Gripfast panels and treads were the ideal solution for Hanover Housing, since they met all the criteria:
- Gripfast anti-slip panels and treads have a design life guarantee of 30 years
- The panels and treads can be fitted to a concrete surface with minimal preparation and in all weathers, with reduced downtime.
- The panels and treads provide an integral anti-slip surface which meets UK guidelines for slip resistance
- The panels and treads could be supplied in the colour scheme and pattern of choice, matching the aesthetic requirements of the customer.
